Seasonal Ecologist (Full-time)
Lizard Landscape Design and Ecology is seeking new members to join our expanding ecology team.
Position Summary
Our Seasonal Ecologists support the work of our team throughout the survey season (April – October), contributing to a variety of projects. This entry-level role offers hands-on experience in all aspects of ecological consultancy including fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and conduct ecological surveys, including protected species surveys for reptiles, great crested newts, birds, bats, dormice and badgers under the guidance of senior staff.
Collect accurate field data and maintain organised records and results.
Maintain equipment and ensure health and safety procedures are followed during all fieldwork activities.
Support with desk studies, data analysis, and report preparation.
Person Specification
Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with GIS software is desirable.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use is essential to this role.
Flexibility to work unsocial hours (to include late nights and early mornings with a TOIL system in place).
Basic UK botany skills, knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and previous experience of ecological surveys is desirable.
Work Environment and Conditions
The Seasonal Ecologists day will primarily be fieldwork (surveys, monitoring, site visits), with time also spent in the office assisting with desk studies, GIS mapping, data analysis etc.

Senior Ecologists (Full-time)
Lizard Landscape Design and Ecology is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our expanding, multi-disciplinary team based in Worthing, West Sussex.
Position Summary
Following continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Senior Ecologist to play a leading role in delivering high-quality ecological services across a diverse range of projects. Based in our brand-new Worthing office, with views stretching from the South Downs to the sea, you will work collaboratively alongside landscape architects, planners and arboricultural specialists.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and undertake ecological surveys, technical reporting and protected species licence applications.
Prepare mitigation strategies and review ecological assessments and supporting documents.
Deliver and oversee Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) calculations and UKHab assessments.
Liaise confidently with clients, stakeholders and project teams to provide clear ecological advice.
Support and mentor junior team members, contributing to their professional development.
Contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects across multiple sectors throughout the region.
Person Specification
Full (or eligible) membership of CIEEM.
Holding at least one protected species licence, ideally bat and/or dormouse.
Strong UK/ROI botanical skills.
Experience with PEA, EcIA, BNG calculations and UKHab assessments.
EPS licence experience (desirable but not essential).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage projects independently while working effectively within a team.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
Work Environment and Conditions
This role offers a balance of fieldwork, report writing and project management responsibilities.
Hybrid working arrangements are available, with time spent in our brand-new Worthing office and on-site as required.

Lizard Landscape Design and Ecology, Worthing (nr. Brighton UK) is seeking landscape architects at all levels; Associate Landscape Architect - Senior Landscape Architect - Project Landscape Architect; Landscape Planner; and Graduate Landscape Architect with experience of working in private practice and consultancy and an interest in landscape design and landscape planning commissions to join our expanding landscape / planning team within our environmental consultancy.
LLD is a young and creative environmental and design practice, and we are looking for a focused, positive, creative, and enthusiastic landscape architect and landscape planner to join our friendly landscape team. LLD undertakes Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment; Development Capacity Studies; Landscape Appraisals; Environmental Impact Assessment; and Green Infrastructure Studies for development / landscape projects.
LLD is a multi-disciplinary environmental practice which employs landscape architects; landscape managers; landscape planners; ecologists; and tree surveyors. We have a range of current project types; residential; educational; and public realm. Every project is different and the range of experience is extremely varied. The job description would be as ‘Associate Landscape Architect’ - ‘Senior Landscape Architect’ - ‘Project Landscape Architect’ with a view to promotion to ‘Senior Landscape Architect’ dependent upon P2C and ‘Graduate Landscape Architect’. You would be working with Keith Miller / Josh Peacock as our lead in landscape design / landscape planning. You would be responsible for the assessment, design, and production of your own individual landscape design / planning projects and also other team-based projects.
You would be responsible for meeting project deadlines and managing your own time and your individual project requirements within the overall landscape team. The range of projects is always very mixed, and we try to keep the range of experience for everybody as varied as possible where we can. You would also be expected to deal with our client representatives and design team associates where necessary in order to take the project forward.
