Senior Ecologists (Full-time)
Lizard Landscape Design and Ecology is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our expanding, multi-disciplinary team based in Worthing, West Sussex.
Position Summary
Following continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Senior Ecologist to play a leading role in delivering high-quality ecological services across a diverse range of projects. Based in our brand-new Worthing office, with views stretching from the South Downs to the sea, you will work collaboratively alongside landscape architects, planners and arboricultural specialists.
This role offers genuine opportunities for career progression within a supportive team that values professional development and work/life balance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and undertake ecological surveys, technical reporting and protected species licence applications.
Prepare mitigation strategies and review ecological assessments and supporting documents.
Deliver and oversee Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) calculations and UKHab assessments.
Liaise confidently with clients, stakeholders and project teams to provide clear ecological advice.
Support and mentor junior team members, contributing to their professional development.
Contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects across multiple sectors throughout the region.
Person Specification
Full (or eligible) membership of CIEEM.
Holding at least one protected species licence, ideally bat and/or dormouse.
Strong UK/ROI botanical skills.
Experience with PEA, EcIA, BNG calculations and UKHab assessments.
EPS licence experience (desirable but not essential).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage projects independently while working effectively within a team.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
Work Environment and Conditions
This role offers a balance of fieldwork, report writing and project management responsibilities.
Hybrid working arrangements are available, with time spent in our brand-new Worthing office and on-site as required.
Flexibility may occasionally be required to accommodate survey season demands.

Assistant Landscape Architect (Full-time)
Lizard Landscape Design and Ecology is seeking an Assistant Landscape Architect to join our expanding, multi-disciplinary team based in Worthing, West Sussex.
Position Summary
This entry-level role is suited to individuals with a keen eye for the design of external spaces. Within our landscape team, as Landscape Architect Assistant, you will work closely with our more senior Landscape Architects and collaboratively with the wider, multidisciplinary team within the practice. The role offers opportunity to gain experience in landscape analysis, concept development and detailed design, with day-to-day exposure to live projects.
Key Responsibilities
Support the landscape team in the production of full planning, tender, construction and record documentation;
Produce graphical information, reports and schedules through multiple stages, from feasibility studies to detailed packages using a series of software packages;
Join and assist with site surveys and record findings;
Attend design team, project and site meetings to aid with the presentation of landscape proposals, record project information and client requirements, and to support coordination with the wider project team;
Prepare and maintain project folders and files in line with company standards.
Engage in a professional manner, representing the organisation positively.
Qualification and Experience
Degree in Landscape Architecture (accredited by the Landscape Institute).
Relevant work experience (i.e. internship, placement) is preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
Technical competence in graphic software (AutoCAD or Vectorworks); Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator); 3D modelling and visualisation software (SketchUp, Lumion, or similar); alongside freehand drawing skills;
Good written and verbal communication skills;
Competency in soft landscape / planting design;
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn;
Ability to work as part of a team and take direction;
Creative, enthusiastic, and motivated to develop professionally.
Full UK driving licence (desirable).

The Assistant position offers the opportunity to work closely with the wider team, learn and develop through a wide range of projects with a varied scale and sectors. Gaining independence in the professional work, progression towards a Landscape Architect role is available.

Landscape Architect (Full-time)
Lizard Landscape Design and Ecology is seeking a Landscape Architect to join our expanding, multi-disciplinary team based in Worthing, West Sussex.
Position Summary
This role requires working experience as a junior landscape architect or similar role. In the role of Landscape Architect, you will deliver landscape design, landscape planning or landscape management projects, contributing to all project stages from concept design to construction. The role requires technical competence, design creativity, and the ability to coordinate with clients, associate consultants, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Manage small to medium-sized projects independently, within agreed timeframes, under guidance from senior staff;
Produce landscape analysis and feasibility studies (LVA, Landscape Strategy)
Carry out field surveys for LVA; site visits at all stages of design; perform construction and post-construction inspections;
Prepare design information and documentation for planning, tender, construction and post-construction stages of work;
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, suppliers and contractors;
Review design production for junior colleagues and provide mentoring and support with the assistance of senior staff members.
Ensure compliance with regulatory, health and safety design standards, environmental regulations, and professional standards;
Follow the company’s quality assurance system during project work, business communication and all aspects of professional procedures.
Engage in a professional manner, representing the organisation positively.
Qualification and Experience
Degree in Landscape Architecture (LI-accredited).
Min. 1-2 years work experience in landscape consultancy (or similar);
Associate Member of the Landscape Institute.
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
Proficiency with graphic software (AutoCAD or Vectorworks), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator); and 3D modelling and visualisation software (SketchUp, Lumion, or similar);
Awareness of UK planning processes and environmental guidelines;
Good organisation and communication skills;
Ability to work to deadlines and manage time effectively;
Strong attention to detail;
Collaborative and able to work as part of a team as well as independently;
Creative, enthusiastic, and motivated to develop professionally;
Full UK driving licence (desirable).
Role Summary and Professional Development Opportunities
Project Landscape Architect manages projects independently, with leadership and quality control from Senior and Associate level colleagues. Project Landscape Architects are also expected to support junior team members.
Landscape architects at all levels are encouraged to actively seek and take opportunities for Continuing Professional Development. Landscape Architects are expected to be working towards Chartered Membership of the Landscape Institute Membership through Pathway to Chartership or equivalent route.
