Senior Ecologists (Full-time)
Lizard Landscape Design and Ecology is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our expanding, multi-disciplinary team based in Worthing, West Sussex.
Position Summary
Following continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Senior Ecologist to play a leading role in delivering high-quality ecological services across a diverse range of projects. Based in our brand-new Worthing office, with views stretching from the South Downs to the sea, you will work collaboratively alongside landscape architects, planners and arboricultural specialists.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and undertake ecological surveys, technical reporting and protected species licence applications.
Prepare mitigation strategies and review ecological assessments and supporting documents.
Deliver and oversee Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) calculations and UKHab assessments.
Liaise confidently with clients, stakeholders and project teams to provide clear ecological advice.
Support and mentor junior team members, contributing to their professional development.
Contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects across multiple sectors throughout the region.
Person Specification
Full (or eligible) membership of CIEEM.
Holding at least one protected species licence, ideally bat and/or dormouse.
Strong UK/ROI botanical skills.
Experience with PEA, EcIA, BNG calculations and UKHab assessments.
EPS licence experience (desirable but not essential).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage projects independently while working effectively within a team.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
Work Environment and Conditions
This role offers a balance of fieldwork, report writing and project management responsibilities.
Hybrid working arrangements are available, with time spent in our brand-new Worthing office and on-site as required.
Flexibility may occasionally be required to accommodate survey season demands.

Landscape Planner (Full-time)
Lizard Landscape Design and Ecology is seeking a Landscape Planner to join our growing team in Worthing, West Sussex, working alongside our Technical Director of Landscape Planning. Our office enjoys views across the English Channel and the South Downs, providing an inspiring setting from which to shape landscapes and places of lasting value.
The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of Landscape and Visual Appraisals (LVA) and Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA) for statutory EIA, under the guidance of our Technical Director.
At Lizard, landscape planning focuses on analysing landscape character and patterns to understand and respond positively to proposed landscape change. Our work seeks to influence better development outcomes by informing thoughtful, evidence-led design, and helping to create better places.
The role will include:
Undertaking landscape analysis and field survey work, including assessment of landform, landscape character, cultural heritage, and natural heritage assets;
Viewpoint photography and visual assessment work;
Production of figures and mapping using QGIS;
Preparation of graphics and reporting outputs using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign;
Supporting photomontage production using Adobe Photoshop;
Contributing to the development of verified visualisations and modelling capability;
Assisting with Landscape Sensitivity Studies and strategic landscape planning work, including renewable energy capacity assessments.
We are experiencing continued growth across our landscape planning services, providing an opportunity for the successful candidate to develop their skills across a diverse portfolio of projects.
About You - you are likely to be:
A Landscape Architect who is a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute (CMLI), or working towards Chartership;
Alternatively, a promising graduate or someone from an allied discipline such as Town Planning may be considered;
Passionate about understanding landscapes spatially and descriptively, and interested in the interaction between the built environment, natural systems and habitats;
Enthusiastic about contributing to positive environmental and place-making outcomes.
A UK driving licence would be desirable.

Assistant Landscape Architect (Full-time)
Lizard Landscape Design and Ecology is seeking an Assistant Landscape Architect to join our expanding, multi-disciplinary team based in Worthing, West Sussex.
Position Summary
This entry-level role is suited to individuals with a keen eye for the design of external spaces. Within our landscape team, as Landscape Architect Assistant, you will work closely with our more senior Landscape Architects and collaboratively with the wider, multidisciplinary team within the practice. The role offers opportunity to gain experience in landscape analysis, concept development and detailed design, with day-to-day exposure to live projects.
Key Responsibilities
Support the landscape team in the production of full planning, tender, construction and record documentation;
Produce graphical information, reports and schedules through multiple stages, from feasibility studies to detailed packages using a series of software packages;
Join and assist with site surveys and record findings;
Attend design team, project and site meetings to aid with the presentation of landscape proposals, record project information and client requirements, and to support coordination with the wider project team;
Prepare and maintain project folders and files in line with company standards.
Engage in a professional manner, representing the organisation positively.
Qualification and Experience
Degree in Landscape Architecture (accredited by the Landscape Institute).
Relevant work experience (i.e. internship, placement) is preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
Technical competence in graphic software (AutoCAD or Vectorworks); Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator); 3D modelling and visualisation software (SketchUp, Lumion, or similar); alongside freehand drawing skills;
Good written and verbal communication skills;
Competency in soft landscape / planting design;
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn;
Ability to work as part of a team and take direction;
Creative, enthusiastic, and motivated to develop professionally.
Full UK driving licence (desirable).

Landscape Architect (Full-time)

Position Summary
This role requires working experience as a junior landscape architect or similar role. In the role of Landscape Architect, you will deliver landscape design, landscape planning or landscape management projects, contributing to all project stages from concept design to construction. The role requires technical competence, design creativity, and the ability to coordinate with clients, associate consultants, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Manage small to medium-sized projects independently, within agreed timeframes, under guidance from senior staff;
Produce landscape analysis and feasibility studies (LVA, Landscape Strategy)
Carry out field surveys for LVA; site visits at all stages of design; perform construction and post-construction inspections;
Prepare design information and documentation for planning, tender, construction and post-construction stages of work;
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, suppliers and contractors;
Review design production for junior colleagues and provide mentoring and support with the assistance of senior staff members.
Ensure compliance with regulatory, health and safety design standards, environmental regulations, and professional standards;
Follow the company’s quality assurance system during project work, business communication and all aspects of professional procedures.
Engage in a professional manner, representing the organisation positively.
Qualification and Experience
Degree in Landscape Architecture (LI-accredited).
Min. 1-2 years work experience in landscape consultancy (or similar);
Associate Member of the Landscape Institute.
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
Proficiency with graphic software (AutoCAD or Vectorworks), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator); and 3D modelling and visualisation software (SketchUp, Lumion, or similar);
Awareness of UK planning processes and environmental guidelines;

Environmental Consultant – Business Development
(Landscape Architect or Ecologist)

Lizard Landscape Design and Ecology is seeking an ambitious Environmental Consultant to join our growing team in Worthing, West Sussex.
This is a varied and development-focused role suited to either a Landscape Architect or Ecologist (or someone from a closely related environmental discipline) who is interested in combining technical consultancy work in practice with business development and marketing.
Approximately two-thirds of the role will focus on technical environmental project delivery, with around one-third dedicated to business development, client engagement, and helping to continue to grow the profile of the practice.
Our office enjoys inspiring views across the English Channel and the South Downs, providing a strong connection to the landscapes and environments we work within and seek to enhance.
Working closely with the Directors, you will contribute to a wide range of environmental consultancy projects while also playing an active role in the growth and development of the business.
The Role
Technical / Project Delivery – Subject to Discipline
Undertaking site visits, field surveys and environmental assessments;
Supporting or leading Landscape and Visual Assessments (LVA) where relevant;
Supporting ecological surveys, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA) and reporting;
Contributing to Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments and habitat-based work;
Preparing reports, environmental statements and planning documentation;
Supporting infrastructure, development and renewable energy projects;
Assisting with visualisation, graphics and presentation outputs using Adobe Creative Suite.
Business Development and Marketing
Identifying and developing new project opportunities;
Building and maintaining relationships with architects, planners, developers and landowners;
Supporting preparation of fee proposals, tenders and bids;
Managing and developing social media content (LinkedIn, Instagram and others);
Creating case studies, project updates and marketing material;
Supporting website content, SEO and digital communications;
Assisting with newsletters, campaigns and wider promotional activity;
Representing the practice at networking events and industry meetings;
Helping to raise the profile of the business and generate new enquiries.
About You
You may be:
A Chartered Landscape Architect (CMLI) or working towards Chartership;
An Ecologist or Environmental Consultant (MCIEEM); or working towards Chartership;
Someone from a related field such as Geography, Environmental Science, Conservation or Town Planning.
You will ideally have:
A strong interest in environmental planning, ecology and/or landscape work;
Confidence in engaging with clients and building professional relationships;
An interest in business development, marketing or digital communications;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
A proactive and motivated approach to work;
A desire to contribute to the growth of a consultancy business.
Experience with GIS, report writing, ecological or landscape assessments, Adobe Creative Suite, or digital marketing would be advantageous but not essential.
A full UK driving licence would be desirable.
